Abstract:

The exercises currently used by students are not scientifically designed to suit their athletic level and the crucial biomechanical capabilities required for discus throwing performance. This results in the exercises failing to target and develop these biomechanical abilities according to the specific components of discus throwing performance. Therefore, the researchers deemed it necessary to study this problem and utilize CrossFit exercises to develop specific biomechanical capabilities, such as strength, speed, and flexibility, which are most important for improving athletic performance in the discus throw.

The study objectives were set as follows:

  • To develop Cross Fit exercises to improve certain biomechanical capabilities and enhance discus throwing performance among students.
  • To determine the effect of CrossFit exercises on developing certain biomechanical capabilities and improving discus throwing performance among students.
  • To identify the differences between the experimental and control groups in developing certain biomechanical capabilities and improving discus throwing performance among fourth-year students at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Kufa. The most important research hypothesis was:

There are significant differences between the post-tests of the experimental and control groups in developing certain biomechanical abilities and improving discus throwing performance among fourth-year students at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Kufa. These differences favor the experimental group.

The researchers used the experimental method, as it was suitable for the nature of the problem and for achieving the research objectives. The design employed two equivalent groups with pre- and post-tests. The research sample was then purposively selected from fourth-year students at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Kufa, for the academic year 2024-2025. The sample consisted of 18 students from a total population of 75 students. The sample was divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group, with 9 students in each group. The experimental group used CrossFit exercises, while the control group used the standard training methods provided by their instructors.

The experimental group used CrossFit exercises, while the control group used the standard training methods provided by their instructors. After completing the testing and measurement of the research variables, the results were extracted after appropriate statistical analysis, revealing that: - CrossFit exercises have a significant effect on developing certain biomechanical abilities and performance in the discus throw competition.

Based on these findings, the researchers recommended several points, most importantly:-It is essential to use flexibility exercises and medicine ball exercises with appropriate weights for discus throwers to develop explosive power and thus improve performance, given their clear and tangible impact as demonstrated by the research results.
