The research problem emerges through reviewing the administrative practices in the Colleges of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in Iraq, including the University of Wasit. It was observed that there is a degree of hesitation and lack of seriousness in joint tasks such as planning, setting administrative objectives, building trust, and maintaining commitment between department heads and faculty members. These shortcomings negatively affect the nature and style of the instructors’ work and their performance evaluations. This prompted the researchers to investigate the core of the problem by examining the nature of the use of the Management by Objectives (MBO) approach and its relationship with job satisfaction among faculty members.
The research aims to: identify the two research scales (Management by Objectives and job satisfaction among the faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences), and to determine the relationship between these two variables. To achieve these objectives, the researchers adopted the descriptive method using the survey approach. A sample of 100 faculty members was selected and divided into exploratory, preparation, and application groups. The researchers prepared two research scales: the Management by Objectives scale and the Job Satisfaction scale for the faculty members of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. Upon completing the preparation phase, both scales were administered to the application sample, and the results and correlation relationships were extracted. The researchers reached several conclusions and recommendations, including the successful development of both research scales (Management by Objectives and Job Satisfaction). The findings indicated a notable level of both Management by Objectives practices and job satisfaction among the faculty members of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Wasit. The study recommends enhancing collaborative work between faculty members and the college administration (Dean/Head of Department), and the need to develop faculty activities in ways that ensure their job satisfaction.
